Thieves Break Into Dhamtari’s SMFG Gramin Shakti Bank, Steal ₹1.5 Lakh and Destroy CCTV System
A late-night burglary at SMFG Gramin Shakti Bank in Dhamtari, Chhattisgarh, saw thieves break the shutter, steal about ₹1.5 lakh, and destroy the CCTV system. Police teams, including the CSP, Cyber Cell and Kotwali staff, have launched an investigation as the incident raises security concerns for local financial institutions.
According to initial assessments, the intruders made off with roughly ₹1.5 lakh after gaining entry through the damaged shutter. The deliberate destruction of the CCTV cameras suggests the burglars attempted to erase any trace of their movements inside the building.
Senior officers, including the Dhamtari Circle Superintendent of Police, along with teams from the Cyber Cell and Kotwali Police Station, arrived at the scene shortly after the crime was reported. Investigators examined the premises through the morning, documenting evidence and reviewing what remained of the bank’s surveillance setup. Authorities have launched a detailed probe to identify the suspects and determine whether the break-in was carried out by a local group or part of a more organised attempt.
The incident has raised concern among financial institutions in the area, with police advising enhanced night-time security and backup surveillance systems. As the investigation continues, officials say restoring public confidence and preventing further attempts on banking facilities will be a priority in the coming days.
